A Family Portrait Shoot - Anita Nowacka

Written by Andy. Posted in Unknown Photograper Originals

WOW! I'm still exhausted! I have a new found respect for family portrait photographers, especially when there is a young child involved....or maybe I'm just completely out of shape! My good friend Anita Nowacka has been shooting families, wedding and pretty much anything lifestyle for the past 10 years in Seattle, WA!

But, before I begin I want to give a GIGANTIC THANK YOU TO:

ROSEANNE, DaNiel and Siloe

who came out to help us film this video for you guys!

In this video we document the entire Family Portrait Shoot and show you how much work actually goes into it. I can tell you from personal experience, you guys should be charging an arm and a leg for these shoots, they are much, and I mean much harder on the body and gear than any commercial shoot I've ever been to.

In the video Anita goes over some cool techniques that she uses to get the shot!

Tchotchke Photography - Susan Roderick

Written by Andy. Posted in Unknown Photograper Originals

When I first met Susan Roderick one of the first things we talked about was her style of photography which she calls "TCHOTCHKE" photography. She was so enthusiastic about her style and I just kept thinking, "she likes to photograph junk?".

Well guys and gals, I'm here to tell you that you too must go photograph junk. The more I thought of it, and actually went out and did it, the more I realized how important this "junk photography" was for my photography. Even though I don't shoot weddings, I don't shoot events, I don't shoot products...this exercise helped with one of the most important aspects of becoming a better photographer - refinement of your eye.

Let me explain, photography is all about the small details. It's all about seeing interesting items in like Susan says "ordinary things". So this "tschotchke" photography is a great way for you to open your eyes to those small details, to start seeing color and composition in things you would just walk by and say "that's just junk"!

I'm always looking for ways to become more and more creative, and this is definitely one of them!

So get out, and go shoot some junk! Polish your eye, notice the details and become a better photographer by shooting "junk"!

UPDATE: In no way what so ever did we mean that the items photographed at the Pike Place Market are "Junk". We simply wanted to use the term loosely for photographers to understand that it doesn't matter what it is, you can still make it beautiful by the power of photography.

Vaudeville Etiquette: The Entire Shoot!

Written by Andy. Posted in Unknown Photograper Originals

Get the popcorn ready!

My good friend LaRae Lobdell from PhotoSister.com came out to help shoot my favorite band called Vaudeville Etiquette! They have a new CD coming out and needed some shots. We decided to bring a film crew and document the entire process so that we could share it with you!

The video is 37 minutes long, so nothing fast and quick here. I wanted to leave in as much detail and tips as possible. I wanted to share everything from location hunting, posing, lighting and pretty much everything else I could think of...so in the end a 3 minute video was just not enough!

Let me know in the comments section if this is something that you guys would like to keep seeing, or is the video way too long?
