The Camera's I use!

The cameras I use are probably the least important tool that is in my arsenal. Honestly, the camera just does not matter. I know you hear that this brand is better than this brand all the time. But to be completely honest, every camera from every camera make is amazing. You can have the best camera in the world in the hands of the worst photographer in the world and guess what...they are still the worst photographer in the world. The camera is just the tool that captures the images. The important part when selecting your camera is how if feels in your hands. The camera must be comfortable and must feel like an extension of your arm. This is in my opinion the most important thing to consider when making your purchase. If the camera gets in the way, or causes discomfort it's going to show in your photos.

For me, this is the main reason why I went with Nikon, besides the fact that my father-in-law gave me a whole bunch of manual Nikon lenses. The Nikon line of cameras simply fits better in my hand than some the other brands.

So before you buy, I highly and I mean highly recommend you visting your local camera store and holding the camera in your hands. Play with the dials and buttons (even if you don't know what they do yet) and make sure it just FEELS RIGHT! I don't know what to tell you to look for, I just know that you will know as soon as you feel it!

Nikon D7000 MY FAVORITEST!

d7000I've never truly loved and I mean loved a camera until the purchase of the Nikon D7000! I've had pretty much the entire Nikon range of digital camera's starting with the Nikon D100 all the way up to the Nikon D3s! So I can tell you I've tried them all and the D7000 has been my ultimate favorite. Is it the perfect camera...absolutely not. Is it the best at everything...NO! Is it the most power packed, small package, crop sensor camera available...YES! In my old age, I'm not sure what it could be actually, I'm just sick of carrying heavy gear this is where the Nikon D7000 excels. I'm also not in the mood to have these extremely expensive and attention calling cameras...it could just be the living in Colombia that has me feeling this way. What I really like about the D7000 is that it doesn't get in the way. Everything works the way it's supposed to. Everything from the image quality to the video works amazingly. I'm a huge fan of the crop frame because of the extended depth of field (we'll go over this in another article) and this is honestly the best crop frame camera I've ever used!

If you're looking for extreme high ISO, this is not for you. If you're looking for rugged and weatherproof, this is not for you. But if you're looking for a "lower cost", lightweight and extremely powerful camera - THIS IS FOR YOU!

Canon 7D Second Favoritest!

canon7dThe Canon 7D is my first real venture into the Canonland. I never really played with Canon's until we started filming for the Unknown Photographer Show. I can honestly tell you that this is a great camera....for video! I'm still not completely convinced when it comes down to actual photography image quality. But I think it has more to do with my lack of "Canon technique" than with anything else.

Compared to the Canon 5D Mark II, the autofocus is day and night. Autofocus is one of the most important things on today's camera's and on the 7D it's rock solid. Fast and accurate. It really does compare very well to the Nikons, which is the best that I have ever used.

The 7D is a heavy machine, that is built to last. You can just feel how well made it is when you compare it to a 5D Mark II and especially compared to a T3i or below. Canon really hit the nail on the head with build quality.

But where this camera really shines is video. It's amazing! The quality is beautiful, and the crop factor gives it a little noise/grain that I really like. The ability to shoot 60 frames per second is extremely cool. If you haven't tried it out yet, YOU MUST DO IT! You'll become addicted!

I highly recommend this camera especially if you are into video. Compared to the higher priced 5D Mark II, this simply blows it out of the water when it comes to video...but I like that grainer film looking video!
