OSI Group Successfully Extends its Presence in Different Continents

OSI Group is the premier global supplier of value-added food products to the world’s leading foodservice and retail food brands. It has a strong heritage of quality and service. It was founded in 1909 by Otto Kolschowsky in Chicago. It started as Otto & Sons, a meat market and small butcher shop in the USA. It began scaling globally in 1955 after becoming the first hamburger supplier to McDonald’s. In 1993, the company opened a unique plant dedicated to serving the McDonalds.

The current CEO of the OSI Group, Sheldon Lavin, came aboard in the 1970s and since then he has helped the company to expand into global markets. In 1975, it changed its name from Otto & sons to OSI Group. Mr. David G. McDonald, the company’s President, and Chief Operating Officer is another executive member of the group.

As early as the1980s, the OSI Group had started to expand into other countries such as Germany, Spain, Austria, Taiwan, Philippines, and Mexico. Upon the arrival of the new millennium, OSI Group began to explore opportunities in poultry operations across several continents. Acquisitions commenced in the 2000s when the OSI broke into the fresh produce market through an acquisition in China in 2002 followed by Australia. Progressive development and expansion for the OSI group have continued over the years. As of 2014, OSI Group had established joint ventures in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany. That enabled OSI Group to expand its beef distribution in Europe and venture into value-added meat products in Canada.

As of 2016, OSI Group had commenced several other acquisitions in Illinois to provide an abundant amount of storage space and to allow for added growth. The acquisition of Dutch Baho Food Controlling Stake gave OSI Group a broader continental reach and an opportunity to include deli meats and quick snacks to its inventory. Besides, the acquisition of UK Flagship Europe enabled them to expand to marinades, food supplies, and other products in the European market. Again, the acquisition of German HynekSchlachthof GmbH allowed the OSI Group to increase its distribution of meat products throughout Germany and Europe. OSI Group has featured severally on the Forbes list of America’s largest private companies.

If you are in the top 100, then it is expected to buy out other successful companies. OSI Group has recently acquired Flagship Europe, which is a respected food supplier to United Kingdom. The impressive thing is that before OSI purchased Flagship Europe, Flagship purchased Calder Foods. This just shows you the scope of OSI’s reach within the food industry.

OSI Group acquired a Tyson Foods plant based in Chicago, which is a manufacture of food and storage facility. OSI has a warehouse in Chicago, and they decided it would be more profitable to own two facilities in the area. This deal helped both OSI and Tyson Foods because, fortunately, it was in both of their interests.

Another acquisition made by OSI Group Baho Food. Baho Food is a Dutch manufacturer that is more than capable of growing OSI and greatly benefiting from the combined efforts of both companies. Part of the deal included executives from Baho Foods actively participating in business arrangements, ultimately for the success of both companies. OSI Group and The Food Industry

One Hundred Years Of Service

When your company has been around for more than a century, you know you’ve done something right. OSI Group was created in 1909 by Germany immigrant Otto Kolschowsky. Since his initial desire to make the best meat deli he can the company has evolved into something so much greater now. It has expanded into a national and international business. It has acquired companies across the world in its quest for the best quality meat. There simply isn’t any company like OSI Group.

Offering More Than Meat

The thing that makes OSI Group different many other meat processing plants is that it offers much more than meat. OSI understands that food companies need much more than meat to give customers what they want. This is where the introduction of frozen dough and vegetables came from. They understood that their customers wanted someone who could provide them with everything they were going to need to make sure that their restaurants could succeed. OSI Group responded with this inclusion of options beyond meat. So far, it seems that the idea is working just fine and OSI is headed towards success.

Why It Remains On Top

OSI Group is one of the 100 greatest food companies around. It is worth billions of dollars and continues to grow even to this day. That level of success isn’t something that simply happens without any strategy. It has succeeded because it represents the American Dream and everything we have worked so hard for. Americans want to see small businesses turn into empires and that’s exactly what happened with OSI. You don’t need to look very far to see that this brand is going to be around for a long time. It simply has too much to give the world.
